We recognize that many family members are also paid through the OPWDD-Self-Direction system. Your lived experience as a family member of a Self-Direction participant combined with your knowledge as a professional in the system (paid broker, care manager or other service related provider) brings enormous knowledge and perspective to both of your roles.
However, our Family Education, Advocacy & Support meetings are designed to provide a safe and confidential space for family members and unpaid natural supporters to voice their concerns in a judgment free zone. Attendance of paid providers who are far more knowledgeable about the lingo and policies of OPWDD could have the unfortunate consequence of reducing the judgement-free environment we are seeking to provide.
SOYAN is contemplating creating an alternative means of connection through a Community of Practice for Family - Professionals. If you are interested in participating in a future Community of Practice-SOYAN Network please take this survey.
