At Supporting Our Youth & Adults Network, Inc. (SOYAN), we recognize the importance of protecting your personal information and are committed to processing it responsibly and in compliance with applicable data protection laws in places where SOYAN operates.
Why and How We Collect and Use Your Personal Information
Personal Information is any information that identifies you as an individual or relates to an identifiable individual. We collect the following Personal Information: first and last names, email address, zip code, phone number, year of birth, demographics, care coordination organization and fiscal intermediary used for OPWDD services and supports, I/DD status (or family member/caregiver/guardian or a supporter of the i/dd community, …).
This Privacy Policy applies to all personal information we collect from individuals, either electronically, via postal mail, in-person or over the phone, for any purpose, including but not limited to contact information, registrations, online forms, participation in events, applications, etc. By providing any such personal information to us, you agree to the terms and conditions of this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree to the terms and conditions of this Privacy Policy, do not use any services of SOYAN, such as the website, or provide information to us.
We may collect your personal information for various purposes such as the following:
- Providing the functionality of services and fulfilling your requests.
We will engage in these activities to manage our contractual relationship with you and/or to comply with a legal obligation.
To provide services to you, such as arranging access to your account and providing related customer service.
To respond to your inquiries and fulfill your requests, such as when you send us questions, suggestions, compliments or complaints, or request a brochure or other information.

We may aggregate and/or anonymize personal information so that it will no longer be considered personal information. We do so to generate data for our internal use, such as assessing quantitative demographics about our meeting participation. - Facilitating volunteering or event participation.

For audits, to verify that our internal processes function as intended and are compliant with legal, regulatory, and/or contractual requirements;

For identifying usage trends, for example, understanding which parts of our services are of most interest to users;

Retention of Information
Information generally will be retained only for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes for which the information was collected, or as otherwise required by law.

We intend to protect your personal information and to maintain its accuracy. SOYAN implements reasonable electronic, personnel and physical measures to help us protect your personal information from loss, theft, alteration or misuse. However, please be advised that even the best security measures cannot fully eliminate all risks. We cannot guarantee that only authorized persons will view your information. We are not responsible for third-party circumvention of any privacy settings or security measures.
Opting Out of Communications from SOYAN
You may opt-out of receiving communications from SOYAN by following the unsubscribe process described in an email communication, or by contacting SOYAN in accordance with the “Contacting Us” section below.
How You Can Access, Change, or Delete Your Personal Information
If you would like to request to review, correct, or update personal information that you have previously provided to us, you may do so using the contact information in the section entitled “Contacting Us,” below. We will respond to your request consistent with applicable law.
In your request, please make clear what personal information you would like to have changed, whether you would like to have your personal information suppressed from our database, or otherwise let us know what limitations you would like to put on our use of your personal information. For your protection we may need to verify your identity before implementing your request. We will try to comply with your request as soon as reasonably practicable.
Please note that we may need to retain certain information for recordkeeping purposes and/or to complete any transactions that you began prior to requesting a change or deletion (e.g., when you make a purchase, you may not be able to change or delete the personal information provided until after the completion of the transaction).

Please note that you may have cookies or other tracking technology placed on your computer by third party websites that refer you to the SOYAN website. Please review the privacy policies of each website you visit to better understand their privacy practices, including any third-party payment processors utilized by SOYAN. In addition, SOYAN would like to inform you that anytime you click on links (including advertising banners), which take you to third party websites, you will be subject to the third parties' privacy policies. While SOYAN supports the protection of your privacy on the Internet, SOYAN EXPRESSLY DISCLAIMS ANY AND ALL LIABILITY FOR THE ACTIONS OF THIRD PARTIES, INCLUDING BUT WITHOUT LIMITATION TO ACTIONS RELATING TO THE USE AND/OR DISCLOSURE OF PERSONAL INFORMATION BY THIRD PARTIES.
SOYAN’s website may contain links to other sites operated by third parties. SOYAN does not control such other sites and is not responsible for their content, their privacy policies, or their use of personal information. SOYAN’s inclusion of such links on the website does not, by itself, imply any endorsement of the content on such sites or of their owners or operators except as disclosed on the SOYAN website. Sharing of Personal Information
SOYAN may receive personal information about you from third parties. For example, if you access our website through a third-party connection or log-in, such as Facebook® Connect, that third party may pass certain information about your use of its service to us. This information could include, but is not limited to, the user ID associated with your account, any information you have permitted the third party to share with us, and any information you have made public in connection with that service. SOYAN may engage third party companies to perform various functions like technical services for our website, maintaining our email service, or assisting with our fundraising campaigns or donation collections. Such companies may have access to personal information if needed and those companies may use such personal information for the purpose of performing the designated function. Other than as provided in this privacy policy, only SOYAN Steering Board members will have access to the Personal Information we collect, and SOYAN does not sell, transfer or disclose personal information to third parties. SOYAN reserves the right to use or disclose any information as needed to satisfy any law, regulation or legal request, to protect the integrity of the site, to fulfill your requests or to cooperate in any law enforcement investigation or an investigation on a public safety matter.
In addition to the examples listed above, SOYAN also uses third-party vendors to process your payment information when you choose to make a donation, purchase merchandise, or engage in any other legitimate financial transactions
Children’s Privacy
SOYAN’s website is intended for general audiences and is not directed to children under the age of 13 years. SOYAN’s website does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you become aware that a child has provided us with personal information without parental consent, please contact us as described below. If we become aware that a child under 13 has provided us with personal information without parental consent, we will take steps to remove such information.
For minors of under the age of majority, SOYAN relies upon such parents or legal guardians to determine if the SOYAN website is appropriate for the viewing, access, or participation by such individuals under the age of majority. SOYAN may revise this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes to our practices. The revised Privacy Policy will be posted here with an updated revision date. We encourage you to periodically review the Privacy Policy for changes. If SOYAN makes material changes to this Privacy Policy, SOYAN will post a notice at the top of this page for thirty days. By continuing to access or use the SOYAN website after those changes become effective, we consider that you have read and understand the changes.
